“Hey, what’s the white smoke from?”
That one appears to be pretty unmolested. All of the ones around here were owned by 20-somethings and were tuned to the edge until they finally blew up. Then after blowing up turbos, the youngsters moved on to blowing up Subarus. I think after that, they went on to used S4s and started blowing those up. Poor cars.

Turbos eat seals, trans mounts break (there was a recall for that on the early cars), timing chains stretch (there’s a TSB for that), and then there’s your typical Mazda3 rust and suspension issues, the major one being rear shocks that blow out and mounts that break.

I had one for 5 years and loved it. I traded it with 109000 because I was starting to get concerned about reliability. Fun car, probably would not own another because of how rough the car feels.
Very fun car though.

Bought one new. 2nd gear synchro bad from day one. Weird roll steer effect from back axle that never gave me confidence to in a 80mph sweeper. Electronic throttle lacked aftermarket controls in those days and started to close up. Traded for my C5z when my young son called it a racecar and my ex took pity. Good ex. Never looked back. Later ms3's had shit gearing. Both ms3 and wrx similar rust issues, but trusted the wrx more even with a worse engine.

Well... is it that 09 you are looking at? By 09 rust issues were much better and engine mounts were better. Still had rear shock issues, (just like all Mazda 3 5drs.) I believe there is a power steering pump recall on that year.
